Harmanpreet Kaur steps down after leading India to 2025 World Cup title and multiple trophies

On 2026-10-06 Harmanpreet Kaur stepped down as captain of India’s women’s cricket team across all formats, having captained India to the 2025 ODI World Cup title.
Kaur served as one of the main leaders of the Indian side during an extended period in charge. Under her captaincy India contested multiple trophies and won medals across different tournaments. The team produced notable results in both international cricket competitions and multi-sport events while she led them.
The 2025 ODI World Cup is cited as the biggest achievement of her captaincy. She led India to the World Cup title for the first time and added an ICC trophy to her record. That victory made her the only Indian women’s captain to win an ICC trophy.
As captain she also won the Asia Cup four times. That haul makes her the only captain to have won the Asia Cup on four occasions.
India secured gold medals at the 2023 Asian Games and again at the 2026 Asian Games during her tenure. Those two golds added further major medals to her record as captain.
At the Commonwealth Games India finished with a silver medal under her leadership. Individually, she recorded 92 T20I wins as captain, the most by any captain, and she has 126 international wins as captain, the most by an Indian women’s captain.
