Hikaru admits error after chaotic EWC match against Firouzja

Hikaru Nakamura said he was wrong after a chaotic match against Alireza Firouzja at the 2026 Esports World Cup, which ended with Firouzja forfeiting following technical issues and multiple disconnections.

Nakamura initially blamed chess.com but later learned the problems were caused by the EWC; he apologised for his comments and said he had jumped to conclusions.

He finished third at the tournament and earned $145,000 plus Club Championship points for Falcons Esports.
