Himmat Singh’s kick leads to freak run-out that ties DPL game and forces Super Over

Himmat Singh’s impulsive kick on the final ball of a Delhi Premier League match on Tuesday resulted in a freak run-out that tied the game between New Delhi Tigers and Outer Delhi Warriors. The tie sent the match into a Super Over.

Chasing 136 in a 15-over contest, Outer Delhi Warriors required a single from the last delivery to secure victory. The batter attempted a big hit but only pushed the ball down the ground; although a single was never clearly on with Himmat positioned close to the non-striker’s end, both batsmen ran because it was the final ball of the innings.

Himmat reached the ball in time but fumbled what initially looked like a straightforward chance. In frustration he kicked the ball away; the ball then rolled directly onto the stumps at the non-striker’s end before Pratham Saluja could make his ground, producing the run-out that levelled the scores.

Himmat’s body language ranged from visible frustration at the fumble to immediate celebration once the ball hit the stumps, while several teammates first covered their faces before erupting into celebration as the game moved to a Super Over.

Outer Delhi Warriors held their nerve to win the contest in the Super Over after surviving the dramatic finish. The incident quickly became one of the most talked-about moments of the ongoing DPL, with the final-ball drama drawing widespread attention online.

Himmat made his Indian Premier League debut for Lucknow Super Giants in 2025 after joining the franchise as a replacement for Mitchell Marsh. He had scored 197 runs in eight innings at a strike rate of 148 in the 2024 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He did not get an opportunity to bat in the three matches he played during the 2025 IPL season, and in 2026 he featured in six matches, scoring 92 runs at an average of 30.67 and a strike rate of 133.33.

The 2026 edition of the Delhi Premier League began on July 31; the league stage will conclude on August 25, with the final scheduled to be played on August 30.
