Lucknow — West Indies spinner Akeal Hosein said on October 5, 2026 that he was confident his side would push India hard in the five-match T20 international series that begins on October 6, 2026, and he is set to play his 100th Twenty20 international in the opening game.

Hosein framed his belief around past encounters with India, noting the West Indies gave India a strong test at the World Cup and that his team would not yield. "I back my boys. Even when we played in the World Cup, we gave them a hell of a run. They know the fear that we bring to T20 cricket. They know the brand that we play. We know they are a dangerous team, but we’re not going to back down as well," said Hosein.

On preparation and match approach, Hosein emphasised planning and execution as decisive factors for both sides. "I would think both teams are looking forward to the challenge. It’s about who plans best and who executes best. We are going to focus on the things that we can control. I think once we do that, we’ll be successful," he said.

The 33-year-old Trinidadian is due to reach the 100-match mark in Twenty20 internationals on Tuesday, a milestone he discussed alongside his short-term aims and longevity. "I wish I could see the next five years. But for me, first of all, I’m still at 99. I have to get selected to make that 100 game. That being said, it’s an achievement in itself. It shows you’re dedicated, you’re hungry, and your performances have been up to par, too. So it’s a good achievement; it’s something to look back on and smile on," said Hosein.

The five-match T20 series between West Indies and India begins on October 6, 2026; if selected for the opening match, Hosein will register his 100th T20 international appearance.
