Hovland and Gerard level on 10 under after second round at Tour Championship

Viktor Hovland and Ryan Gerard were tied on 10 under following the second round of the Tour Championship in Atlanta on August 28, 2026. The pair sit level as the event moves into the weekend of the PGA Tour season finale.

Hovland, the 2023 FedEx Cup champion, finished his round with a birdie on the 18th to post a four-under 66, while Gerard had earlier set the clubhouse mark with a five-under 65. Viktor Hovland is ranked number one for strokes gained putting so far this week, a stat the Norwegian relied on during his second-round recovery.

Collin Morikawa and Chris Gotterup share second place on nine under. World number one Scottie Scheffler overcame two early bogeys to card a 67 and is two shots adrift of the leaders.

Cameron Young sits at eight under after producing a 62 that included seven birdies and an eagle at the par-five 18th; Young won the Players Championship in March. Justin Rose and Matt Fitzpatrick are both at seven under and remain inside reach of the top of the leaderboard.

Rose recorded a bogey-free 65 to move into contention. Rory McIlroy, the Masters champion, began with a birdie but was two-over after four holes; he missed the green with his approach on the third and then twice failed to chip onto the putting surface from the same spot, which led to a double bogey. McIlroy added two birdies in the final three holes and is tied for 23rd on three under.

Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre had a poor back nine, following three straight bogeys with a double bogey at the par-three 15th after finding the water off the tee and signing for a six-over 76. Alongside MacIntyre, Min Woo Lee and Xander Schauffele were among only three players to finish the second round over par. A separate oddity saw Jacob Bridgeman’s errant tee shot come to rest inside a stall selling pizza.

The tournament’s $10m (£7.4m) first prize remains on the line, scheduled to be decided on Sunday evening as the Tour Championship concludes its weekend play.
