Delhi off-spinner Hrithik Shokeen took five wickets for 143 against Gujarat in their Ranji Trophy match at the Palam Ground in New Delhi on October 21, 2026, returning figures of five for 143 in Gujarat’s first innings.

Delhi’s spin department has seen frequent changes in recent seasons, and Shokeen has had limited opportunities since his First Class debut against Assam in December 2022; he has played 17 games across five seasons, including a Duleep Trophy appearance for India‑C against India‑D in 2024, and featured in just two matches in each of the last two Ranji campaigns.

Shokeen bowled 53 overs on a turgid Palam ‘B’ track and finished with five for 143 in Gujarat’s first innings, recording his maiden five-wicket haul at this level.

Reflecting on the performance, he told reporters, "It is my first five-for. So, it is very special."

He also described conversations with coach Vijay Dahiya, saying: "I have spoken to coach Vijay Dahiya. He did say that our spinners have not been doing well. But he has given me confidence that I can do well. That backing is very important."

While his irregular selection — just 12 appearances across formats since December 2024 — has raised questions, Shokeen disclosed that a stress fracture in his lower back contributed to the sporadic game time and said, "I got injured last season. I have worked on my bowling action as a result. I have improved the follow-through," Shokeen revealed.

Having taken his maiden five-for on Wednesday, the 26-year-old will hope for a longer run now, a prospect bolstered by the backing from coach Vijay Dahiya and the adjustments he has made to his bowling action and follow-through.
