Hunt and Asher-Smith help GB to mixed 4x100m gold in Birmingham

Amy Hunt and Dina Asher-Smith were part of the Great Britain quartet that won the mixed 4x100m relay at the European Championships in Birmingham on 16 August 2026, the team setting a European record of 39.97 seconds.

The victory gave Hunt an unprecedented fourth gold of the week, adding to her titles in the 100m, 200m and the women's 4x100m in Birmingham; the 24-year-old world silver medallist drew a sell-out crowd's roar.

Hunt held up four fingers to the camera after fending off Germany's challenge on the home straight to complete the win for a team that included Jeremiah Azu and Zharnel Hughes as well as Asher-Smith.

Dina Asher-Smith moved to her eighth gold and 11th medal overall, becoming the most successful athlete in the competition's 92-year history, with the quartet extending the hosts' domination of the sprint events.

Georgia Hunter Bell controlled the women's 1500m final before bursting clear to take gold, adding to her world indoor and Commonwealth successes; the 32-year-old's victory was her seventh international medal in two years following a five-year break from the sport after a promising junior career.

The mixed relay triumph was Great Britain's ninth gold of the championships, taking them above Italy at the top of the standings and bringing the team's overall total to 16.
