Ibrahima Konate presented at Real Madrid and given No. 16 shirt

Ibrahima Konate was unveiled as a Real Madrid player in the club's main meeting hall on August 20, 2026, and was handed the No. 16 jersey he will wear for the club. President Florentino Pérez greeted Konate at the presentation.
Real Madrid announced Konate’s arrival as reinforcement for the upcoming campaign and completed a formal signing ceremony to register a four-season contract that runs until June 30, 2030. Konate is 27 and is described as a right-footed central defender with a strong frame and genuine skill in duels. The club said his signing addresses a position that was severely damaged by injury in the previous season.
After the paperwork was completed, Pérez presented the newcomer with the club’s customary gifts, including the official white shirt bearing Konate’s name and the number 16. Honorary president José Martínez Pirri attended the ceremony and presented Konate with a luxury watch and a scale replica of the Santiago Bernabéu.
The coaching staff have made immediate plans for Konate’s integration into the first team. Jose Mourinho is expected to rely on him across competitions; Antonio Rüdiger is certain to start, but the second centre-back slot is open. Young Huijsen and Konate will compete for that remaining starting position.
Konate is available to play as a centre-back and the club indicated he will reinforce Real Madrid’s defence during matches. He has declared himself ready to feature if required for upcoming fixtures.
Konate’s first opportunity to feature for Real Madrid may come on the trip to Cornellà-El Prat against Espanyol, a match scheduled for 23rd August at 1 am IST, which the club described as the new defence’s first significant test.
