ICC and CSA to announce 2027 World Cup schedule in Cape Town on October 1, reports

The International Cricket Council and Cricket South Africa are expected to reveal the schedule for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027 at an event in Cape Town on October 1, reports said. The timing would place the announcement almost exactly one year before the tournament.

The 2027 tournament is set to be hosted across South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. Australia are the defending champions after beating India in the final of the previous edition in 2023. Unlike the last edition, the 2027 event will feature 14 teams. India, Australia, New Zealand, England, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Pakistan have already qualified on the basis of the last tournament; South Africa and Zimbabwe have qualified as co-hosts while Namibia must go through the qualifier round.

Senior Journalist at the TOI, Gaurav Gupta, tweeted on his official handle and wrote: "ICC and CSA are likely to announce the 2027 World Cup schedule on October 1 at an event in Cape Town, almost exactly one year before the tournament. 10 teams will be confirmed by the September 30 qualification cutoff!"

Reports give the tentative tournament window as between October 4 and November 21, 2027. The 2027 ODI World Cup will see ten teams qualify directly, with the remaining places filled via a qualifying tournament.

The qualifier round is reported to feature ten teams, including two-time champions, West Indies, with the top four sides from that stage advancing to the main event. Those ten teams will include the 9th- and 10th-ranked ODI teams as of the September 30, 2026 cut-off date, together with the top four teams from the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 and the top four sides finishing the World Cup Qualifier Playoff round.

According to the report and Gupta's tweet, ten teams will be confirmed by the September 30 qualification cutoff, and the October 1 schedule announcement in Cape Town will precede the tournament by roughly one year.
