IND vs WI: Jason Holder and Shimron Hetmyer to miss ODI leg of West Indies tour of India

West Indies will tour India for a white-ball series that begins on September 27 in Thiruvananthapuram, and Jason Holder and Shimron Hetmyer will not play in the three-match ODI portion of that tour. The overall schedule comprises three ODIs followed by five T20Is.

The ODI fixtures are set for September 27, September 30 and October 3, while the five-match T20I series runs from October 6 to October 18. India enter the series aiming to build on recent white-ball performances, have already had a busy international schedule this year and will have another important series against New Zealand later in October. West Indies have announced their squads for the tour, with Shai Hope named captain of both the ODI and T20I sides and the selectors making a few changes across formats.

Shimron Hetmyer has been left out of the three ODIs but retained in the T20I squad; the selectors have given him an extended recovery period after the Caribbean Premier League. The left-handed batter will join the West Indies squad for the five-match T20I series, which starts on October 6.

Hetmyer was one of the leading performers in CPL 2026, finishing as the tournament's second-highest run-scorer. He recently appeared in the final two ODIs of West Indies’ home series against New Zealand in July and made an unbeaten 69 in the fifth ODI that helped West Indies win that match.

Jason Holder will not be part of the ODI series and, unlike Hetmyer, has been rested for the entire India tour. He has not been named in either the ODI or T20I squads for the visit.

Holder last represented West Indies in an ODI in July 2023; he featured in the West Indies setup for the T20I series against Sri Lanka in June this year and captained St Kitts & Nevis Patriots during CPL 2026. Those appearances form the most recent items on his international and franchise record cited by the selectors.

Selectors also handed a maiden T20I call-up to Kamil Pooran following a strong CPL 2026 campaign, reflecting the roster changes made across the two formats for the India tour.

The three-match ODI series will open on September 27 in Thiruvananthapuram, the second ODI will be played on September 30 and the third on October 3, before the five-match T20I sequence begins on October 6.
