India advance to Asian Games men's badminton quarter-finals with 3-0 win over Bangladesh

India's men's badminton team defeated Bangladesh 3-0 in a first-round match at the Asian Games at Ichinomiya City Municipal Gymnasium in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on Monday, September 21, 2026. The victory put India through to the quarter-finals.

All three points were secured in singles, with Lakshya Sen, Ayush Shetty and Srikanth Kidambi prevailing in straight games so the doubles were not required. The Indian women's team also progressed after a 3-0 opening-round win over Kazakhstan and will meet Japan in their quarter-final. The Asian Games badminton programme runs from September 19 to October 4, 2026, in Aichi-Nagoya.

Lakshya Sen opened the tie against Ayman Ibn Jaman, who is ranked world No. 375. Sen recorded a 21-4, 21-12 victory in the first singles match. That result gave India an immediate advantage in the fixture.

Ayush Shetty followed by beating Gourab Singha, ranked world No. 589, 21-4, 21-13. The young Bangladeshi shuttler was unable to prevent India extending their lead. Shetty's win left the tie firmly in India's control before the final singles.

Former world No. 1 Srikanth Kidambi completed the sweep with a 21-15, 21-9 triumph over Jumar Al-Amin. The match lasted just nine minutes. Srikanth's victory sealed the 3-0 scoreline.

With the three singles matches deciding the tie, the doubles matches were unnecessary. Hosts Japan won their first-round encounter 3-0 against Uzbekistan. The quarter-finals are scheduled to take place on Tuesday.

India's men's team will face Japan in the quarter-finals on Tuesday, and the Indian women's side will also meet Japan in their quarter-final.
