India and Pakistan can meet up to three times at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027

India and Pakistan are scheduled to meet in Johannesburg on October 10, 2027 in the group stage of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027, and the tournament format allows them to face one another a maximum of three times.
The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 will be played in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia from October 2 to November 21 and features 14 teams, with 12 sides in the main group stage after qualification. India, who finished as runners-up in 2023, will be captained by Shubman Gill and have been drawn in Group A alongside Pakistan, Australia, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe and one qualifier. The International Cricket Council announced the schedule in Cape Town on October 1, 2026; India open their campaign against Australia on October 7 before meeting Pakistan.
The main competition divides 12 teams into two groups of six, with the top three from each group advancing to a Super 7 phase. In the Super 7 all seven teams play a single round-robin against one another, with each side scheduled to play six matches. No points will be carried forward from the group stage and the top four teams from the Super 7 will qualify for the semi-finals.
Their initial contest is the confirmed group-stage fixture in Johannesburg; beyond that the format creates scope for rematches later in the event. If both India and Pakistan progress from Group A and the Super 7, they are scheduled to meet again on November 7 in Cape Town as their second possible clash.
A third meeting could take place in the knockout phase: if both teams finish among the top four in the Super 7 they could be drawn against each other in a semi-final, which would constitute a third encounter. Alternatively, should they win separate semi-finals they could meet in the final, which is scheduled to be held in Johannesburg on November 21, 2027.
For now the only confirmed fixture between India and Pakistan is the group-stage match on October 10, 2027 in Johannesburg; any Super 7 or knockout meetings will depend on the two teams’ performances in the tournament.
