India defeated Bangladesh 42-21 in their opening Group A women's kabaddi match at the 2026 Asian Games on Monday morning at the Tokai Citizens Gymnasium in Aichi-Nagoya, beginning their title defence with a victory.
Defending champions India combined a disciplined defensive setup with sustained attacking pressure, with Sanju Devi prominent in offence; they established control early by restricting Bangladesh from reaching the bonus line and accumulated points through successful raids to lead 21-10 at half-time.
Bangladesh captain Sraboni Mollick provided most of her side’s scores but struggled to break India’s defence, which repeatedly limited Bangladesh’s opportunities. Manisha Kumari was effective from the left cover, while Sonali Shingate and captain Pushpa Rana added points in attack. India forced an all-out in the first half, contributing to their half-time advantage.
The second half began with quick hand touches from Sanju Devi and Pooja, and India maintained a high defensive line that pressured Bangladesh’s raiders. That tactical approach yielded another All-Out later in the game, and Sanju Devi continued to add points through successful raids. India kept a steady attacking rhythm while the defence sustained the team's control.
Bangladesh produced a brief fightback as Sraboni Mollick and other raiders put together consecutive points and their defence started to slow India’s momentum, narrowing the margin with about five minutes remaining. India responded with a run of successful raids from Sanju Devi that restored a sizable lead and ensured the win. The match finished with India maintaining that advantage to close out the game.
India’s 42 points included 11 bonus points and four All-Out points, while Bangladesh managed five bonus points and recorded a single Super Tackle point. India secured one All-Out in the first half and inflicted another in the second half, which contributed to the scoring spread.
The result gives India a winning start to their title defence; they are scheduled to face Iran at 8:30 AM on 23rd September.
