India consider Sooryavanshi, Kuldeep for Hamilton finale against New Zealand

India and New Zealand meet in the fifth and final T20I in Hamilton on Sunday, November 1, 2026, with India holding an unassailable 3-1 lead in the series. Ahead of the match the Indian management is weighing possible changes to the playing XI after a heavy loss in Auckland.
The established line-up remains the preferred option for selectors, but the Auckland reverse has prompted discussions about tactical alterations. One likely change under consideration is the recall of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, which would most probably mean Sanju Samson making way. India's bowling group has presented challenges despite restricting New Zealand to under 200 in the second and third T20Is of the series. The attack has been driven largely by Arshdeep Singh, with Axar Patel contributing to a lesser extent, while the much-publicised return of Bhuvneshwar Kumar has not produced the expected returns.
A route to include a wrist-spinner would require moving Naman Dhir out of the XI; that is the only straightforward way to fit either Kuldeep Yadav or Varun Chakravarthy into the side. Sairaj Bahutule had said that both Kuldeep and Varun were ready to step in any time, even though that chance might not come their way in this series.
New Zealand will take encouragement from Glenn Phillips' century and Michael Bracewell's forceful fifty heading into the final match, but another significant batting effort will be necessary to narrow India's lead. The hosts' recent contributions with the bat are the most prominent form indicators noted ahead of the game.
The final T20I in Hamilton starts at 12.30 p.m. IST on Sunday, November 1, 2026.
