India will meet West Indies in the second T20I at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi on Friday, October 9, 2026, after taking a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.

India won the opening match in Lucknow, chasing down a 172-run target in 14.4 overs with eight wickets in hand; Shreyas Iyer scored an unbeaten 102 off 43 balls, his first T20I century.

Naman Dhir impressed on his T20I debut by taking three wickets, while Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav picked up two wickets apiece; Arshdeep Singh and Mayank Yadav claimed one wicket each in the game.

Sanju Samson failed to make a substantial score in the first T20I, and selectors could hand a top-order opportunity to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi; the young left-hander had a good IPL 2026 season and is viewed as an aggressive option in the powerplay.

Axar Patel, who played a pivotal role in India’s gold medal-winning campaign at the Asian Games 2026, remains a key spin-bowling all-rounder, but Nitish Kumar Reddy could be considered for a place in Ranchi after an unimpressive ODI series against West Indies.

India have been using two specialist fast bowlers, and Nitish Kumar Reddy is seen as a candidate to provide an additional pace-bowling option if required.

Mayank Yadav conceded 16 runs in his opening over in the first T20I despite dismissing Sherfane Rutherford; selectors might rest him and try Prince Yadav, who can bowl with the new ball and at the death, to assess his contribution.

India lead the series 1-0 in the five-match T20I contest and will attempt to extend that advantage in the second T20I on Friday, October 9, 2026, at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi.
