India defeat Hong Kong in straight sets at Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya

India's men's volleyball team defeated Hong Kong in straight sets at Park Arena Komaki in Aichi-Nagoya on Monday, securing their second win in Pool C at the Asian Games 2026. The victory completed a 3-0 result for India and extended their unbeaten start in the group stage.

The match unfolded 25-22, 25-19, 25-21 in India's favour, with the opening set the tightest as Hong Kong kept pressure before India closed it out by three points. India built a 13-10 lead in the second set and finished it 25-19, a six-point margin, while the third set ended 25-21 as Hong Kong were unable to force a deciding set. Across the three sets India scored 75 points to Hong Kong's 62, a 13-point overall margin, with set-winning margins of three, six and four points respectively.

India's result followed their opening Pool C win on Sunday against Vietnam, a 3-0 victory with set scores of 25-23, 25-21 and 25-20 completed in one hour and 24 minutes at Park Arena Komaki. Combining the two matches, India have won all six sets and outscored their opponents 150 to 126.

The Volleyball Federation of India named a 12-member squad for the 20th Asian Games, with setter Muthusamy Appavu noted as the senior figure and Jerome Vinith Charles and Muhammad Nihal Chatham Kulangara listed among the other prominent players. The remainder of the selected squad comprises Chirag, Amit, John Joseph Eanthungal Joseph, Joel Benjamin Jebaraj, Anand Kottarathil, Om Vasant Lad, Ashwal Rai, Shikhar Singh and Erin Varghese.

The men's volleyball tournament features 16 teams divided into four groups of four, with the top two teams from each pool after the round-robin stage advancing to the quarter-finals and classification matches determining final placings. The volleyball competition at the Asian Games runs from September 27 to October 3.

India will meet Qatar on Tuesday in their final Pool C match, with progression to the quarter-finals available to the top two teams in each group.
