India were drawn with Pakistan and Australia in Group A of the ICC ODI World Cup 2027 when the International Cricket Council released the full tournament schedule on Thursday.

The ICC’s format for the event uses three stages before the knockout rounds. It starts with a three-team Super Series in Windhoek to determine the final team for the Group Stage; after that the remaining 12 teams will be split into two groups of six, with seven teams advancing to the Super 7 phase and the top four moving on to the semi-finals.

India’s opening fixture will be against Pat Cummins’ Australia in Cape Town, with the announcement describing the match as the tournament opener. The schedule text referenced November 19, 2023, when Australia beat India in the World Cup final, saying the pairing will carry those memories into Cape Town.

As of the September 30 qualification cut-off, ten of the 14 participants have secured their places. Hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe have received automatic berths, and eight other teams qualified via the ICC ODI rankings.

The schedule announcement on Thursday said it provides the full match list and related details for the competition. It also noted that the Cape Town event will take place exactly one year before the World Cup begins.

The tournament will begin on 2 October 2027 and will conclude on November 21, 2027, with the Final scheduled for 21 November; four remaining places in the 14-team field will be decided through the Qualifiers early next year.
