India enforce follow-on as Sri Lanka 83/2 at lunch in Colombo on Day 4 of second Test

India reduced Sri Lanka to 83 for 2 at lunch after enforcing the follow-on on Day 4 of the second Test in Colombo on August 26, 2026. Pasindu Sooriyabandara was 35 and Kamindu Mendis 10 at the interval, with the hosts still trailing by 130 runs.

Sri Lanka had resumed the day on 265 for 8, with Sonal Dinusha—who was overnight 85—going on to record his second Test century in as many matches. Dinusha was eventually dismissed and the home side were bowled out for 290, finishing 13 runs short of the follow-on mark and therefore asked to bat again.

Dinusha advanced into the 90s with a six, a slog sweep and a four off off-spinner Saransh Jain, and reached three figures with a pull off pacer Prasidh Krishna that he celebrated on the Sinhalese Sports Club pitch. His innings provided the main resistance before the tail failed to add the runs needed to avoid the follow-on.

Lahiru Kumara was dismissed when he lofted to Dhruv Jurel at covers, providing Jain with the 34-year-old’s maiden Test wicket. Dhruv Jurel then returned to outfield duty as Rishabh Pant, who copped a blow on his shoulder on the second day and stayed away from the field on Tuesday (August 25), returned to don the wicketkeeper’s gloves. Dinusha later perished to Jain after an induced false drive, with KL Rahul taking the catch at slip.

Following the follow-on, Sri Lanka lost opener Lahiru Udara for 3 and Kamil Mishara for 32, Mishara adjudged leg-before to Ravindra Jadeja. Udara had played a pull off Mohammad Siraj and was caught in the deep by Jain; Siraj hurt himself while diving for that catch, required medical attention and returned to the field after some time.

Shubman Gill had imposed the follow-on in the second and final Test; with Sri Lanka 83/2 at lunch and still trailing by 130, play will resume after the interval as the match continues to unfold.
