India’s contingent completed its Asian Games 2026 campaign in Aichi-Nagoya on October 3, adding five gold, two silver and two bronze medals on the final day. The late surge took India’s final medal tally to 85 — 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze — and secured fourth place overall, edging Uzbekistan on silver after both nations finished with 21 golds.

The final day began with landmark results in archery and golf before India collected golds in cricket, wrestling and men’s hockey. Entering October 3 with 76 medals, the Indian contingent added nine more across the day’s events, including five golds. That final-day haul was described in the source as crucial to India’s top-four finish.

In archery, 17-year-old Kumkum Mohod defeated South Korea’s Oh Yejin in a shoot-off to win the women’s individual recurve gold, becoming the first Indian to win an individual recurve gold at the Asian Games; the victory also secured an Olympic quota place for Los Angeles 2028. In the men’s individual recurve, Neeraj Chauhan beat compatriot Dhiraj Bommadevara 6-4 in the bronze-medal match, with Dhiraj finishing fourth. On the golf course, Pranavi Urs claimed the women’s individual gold at 15-under 265, one stroke clear of the field, and teamed with Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar to take silver in the women’s team event behind China.

India completed a cricket double as the men’s team defeated Pakistan by 19 runs in the final after posting 211/6, with Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma making key contributions in the chase-defending effort; the men’s victory followed the women’s team gold won earlier in the Games. Both Indian sides therefore finished as Asian Games champions in cricket.

Wrestling contributed three medals on the final day. Aman Sehrawat won gold in men’s 57kg freestyle, beating North Korea’s Han Chong Song 11-7; the source notes Aman had upgraded from a bronze at the Hangzhou Asian Games. Antim Panghal took silver in women’s 53kg after a 1-9 loss to Japan’s Moe Kiyooka, while Deepak Punia won bronze in men’s 97kg with a 2-1 victory over Mongolia’s Gankhuyag Ganbaatar — India's first Asian Games medal in that weight class since 1966. Sagar Jaglan lost his 74kg bronze-medal bout and Manisha Bhanwala was eliminated in the women’s 57kg quarter-finals.

The men’s hockey team beat Malaysia 5-1 in the final to defend their Asian Games title for the first time; the victory secured direct qualification for Los Angeles 2028, gave India a fifth men’s hockey gold at the Games, and made 2026 the first edition in which both India’s men’s and women’s hockey teams won gold.

Other final-day results saw India’s women’s rugby sevens side finish sixth after a 0-21 loss to Kazakhstan in the fifth-place match and the men’s volleyball team finish sixth after a 2-3 defeat to Thailand. In sailing, Mahi Verma placed eighth overall in the girls’ dinghy/ILCA 4 event and Katya Coelho was seventh in women’s windsurfing/IQFOIL. In taekwondo, Kashish Malik and Jyoti Yadav did not progress to the medal rounds, leaving the sport without a final-day medal for India.

India closed the Aichi-Nagoya programme fourth in the overall standings behind China, Japan and South Korea, with China topping the table on 341 medals — a 72-medal lead over second-placed Japan on 269 — and Korea third on 150, while India finished ahead of Uzbekistan in fifth place.
