India finish fourth with 106 medals at Asian Games 2022 in Hangzhou

India finished fourth at the Asian Games 2022 in Hangzhou, China, held from September 23 to October 8, 2023, securing 106 medals in total — 28 golds, 38 silvers and 40 bronzes.

India was one of 45 nations at the Games and sent a contingent of 661 athletes, comprising 333 men and 328 women, with Harmanpreet Singh and Lovlina Borgohain as flag bearers; the team competed across 35 sports and the largest squads were in athletics (68), football (44), field hockey (36), rowing (33) and shooting (33).

Indian archers delivered multiple titles: in compound events Ojas Deotale and Jyothi Surekha each won three gold medals across individual, team and mixed competitions, India’s men’s and women’s compound teams claimed golds, and the men’s and women’s recurve teams finished with silver and bronze respectively.

Shooting contributed several podium finishes as well: Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar was part of the men's 10m air rifle and 50m rifle three-position teams that won golds, while Tomar also took silver in the 50m rifle three-position and bronze in the 10m air rifle; Esha Singh added one gold and three silver medals in shooting.

Across shooting events India collected seven golds, nine silvers and six bronzes.

Only China (383 medals), South Korea (190 medals) and Japan (188 medals) finished above India in the overall medal standings.
