India impose follow-on after bowling out Sri Lanka for 290 in Colombo

India imposed the follow-on after bowling Sri Lanka out for 290 in the second Test at Colombo on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, securing a 213-run first-innings lead.

India had declared their first innings at 503/9, giving them the lead that prompted the follow-on; the visitors also hold a 1-0 advantage in the two-match series after beating Sri Lanka by 165 runs in Galle.

Sri Lanka resumed the penultimate day at 265/8 and were driven by Sonal Dinusha before the hosts were bowled out in 89.4 overs.

The 25-year-old left-hander, Sonal Dinusha, who was overnight on 85, attacked debutant off-spinner Saransh Jain with a six and a four in the spinner's first over to move into the nineties and reached his second Test century in the next over with a boundary off Prasidh Krishna; he made 103 off 162 balls, hitting 8 fours and 3 sixes.

Debutant off-spinner Saransh Jain (1/45) provided the first breakthrough by dismissing Lahiru Kumara for his maiden Test wicket and later removed Dinusha for 103. Prasidh Krishna finished with 3/52 and Manav Suthar took 3/85 for India.
