India lose 0-2 to Indonesia in Asian Games men's team soft tennis quarterfinals

India were defeated 0-2 by Indonesia in the men's team soft tennis quarterfinals at the Asian Games on Friday, with the tie decided in two rubbers.

India reached the knockout phase after collecting wins over Mongolia and Laos in Group C and suffering a defeat to Chinese Taipei; their squad for the event comprised Jay Meena, Aryan Thakur, Yogesh Choudhary, Aniket Patil and Om Yadav.

Indonesia fielded a team of Fernando Sanger, Tio Hutauruk, Muhammad Falevi, Rizky Laluyan and Bagus Pradewa for the quarterfinal encounter.

Jay Meena and Yogesh Choudhary opened for India in the men's doubles against Tio Hutauruk and Fernando Sanger; the Indian pair managed to win just two games as Indonesia took a 1-0 lead in the tie.

In the men's singles that followed, Aryan Thakur went down to Bagus Pradewa, which allowed Indonesia to seal the tie with a 2-0 victory; the scheduled third match was subsequently cancelled for unspecified reasons.

Soft tennis, played at the Asian Games in host nation Japan, uses a soft, lightweight rubber ball on a court the same size as tennis; during team competitions a game is won by the first player or pair to reach four points in a best-of-three rubber, and a match is clinched by the first player or pair to win five games. The softer ball permits players to vary shots by adding spin or changing speed.

India's campaign in the men's team competition at the Asian Games ended with the quarterfinal defeat, eliminating them from further contention in that event.
