India name ODI squad for three-match home series vs West Indies; Auqib Nabi and Naman Dhir rewarded with first call-ups
The BCCI on September 16 named India’s squad for the three-match ODI series at home against the West Indies starting September 27, 2026, with Auqib Nabi and Naman Dhir handed maiden call-ups. Shubman Gill will continue as ODI captain, while Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli return to the 50-over side for the series.
India’s next assignment is an eight-match home tour against the West Indies, beginning with the three ODIs from September 27 and followed by a five-match T20I series scheduled between October 6 and 17. The series arrives during a period of squad disruption caused by the 2026 Asian Games, and selectors have used the fixtures to balance experience and opportunity ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup preparations. The BCCI published the squad via an official release on September 16.
The 15-player ODI group named by the board is: Shubman Gill (C), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ruturaj Gaikwad, KL Rahul (WK) (VC), Dhruv Jurel (WK), Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar, Mohammed Siraj, Auqib Nabi, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Naman Dhir.
Selectors had to accommodate absences caused by the Asian Games: Shreyas Iyer will miss the West Indies ODIs and Ruturaj Gaikwad has been included as a middle-order replacement. Ishan Kishan is also at the Asian Games and India have named Dhruv Jurel as their second-choice wicket-keeper for the ODI leg.
Ravindra Jadeja has been selected in place of Axar Patel, who will be part of India’s contingent at the Asian Games, and Nitish Kumar Reddy has been added as an all-rounder alongside Jadeja. Hardik Pandya has been left out of the ODI squad because he has not yet regained full fitness and is awaiting clearance from the Centre of Excellence.
The inclusion of Nitish Kumar Reddy creates a selection clash: Reddy has been named in squads for both the Asian Games and the West Indies series, which indicates he will either miss the Asian Games or the ODIs as the two commitments overlap. The BCCI release noted this scheduling conflict in its squad announcement.
The most notable selections are debut opportunities for J&K pacer Auqib Nabi and Punjab batting all-rounder Naman Dhir, who have both received their first call-ups from the BCCI; Naman Dhir can be considered for middle-order batting duties as well as a lower-order all-round role.
The three-match ODI series begins on September 27, 2026, and will be followed by the five-match T20I sequence scheduled from October 6 to October 17, 2026, as India and the West Indies complete the eight fixtures that make up the home tour.
