India on Day 6 of Asian Games 2026 with 15 medals, shooting top contributor

India enters Day 6 of the Asian Games 2026 on Friday, September 25, holding 15 medals, Khel Now reports.

Khel Now states: "Shooting has led the charge with eight medals, four gold and four silver each, while women’s cricket has contributed the country’s only other gold." The same report elsewhere records shooting as "8 – 4 Silver & 4 Bronze."

Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu opened her Asian Games account with a silver, and Naorem Roshibina Devi secured India’s maiden wushu medal, also a silver. The men’s badminton team, MMA fighter Suchika Tariyal, the rowing contingent and soft tennis player Jay Meena have each added bronze medals, with those podiums described as historic firsts for their disciplines.

India will be represented across a broad programme on Day 6 beyond the medal events, with athletes and teams scheduled in swimming, esports, fencing, hockey, squash and table tennis. The contingent’s activity across those sports forms part of an expanded competition schedule for the day.

With an eventful Day 6 ahead, Khel Now says India will look to convert early momentum into a stronger position in the overall standings.

On Friday, September 25, India’s medal prospects are listed as centred on athletics, canoe sprint, shooting and weightlifting, and the team will contest events in those disciplines as part of the Day 6 programme.
