India reached 47 medals, including 12 gold, at the Asian Para Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan on Wednesday, October 21, 2026. Indian para-athletes won 10 medals that day, including three golds, taking the para-athletics tally to 30 after two days of competition.

The Games are being held in Aichi-Nagoya from October 18 to 24 with athletes from 45 National Paralympic Committees competing across 18 sports; India is participating in 11 disciplines. India had won 14 medals, including five gold, on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, and entered the event after its best-ever campaign at Hangzhou 2023, where it won 111 medals to finish fifth overall.

On Wednesday Ayush Verma, Praveen Kumar and Sachin Khilari claimed golds for India, while four athletes took silver and three won bronze. The silver medallists were Banti (men’s high jump T44/64), Bhagyashri Jadhav (women’s shot put F34), Mohd Yasser (men’s shot put F46) and Manjeet (men’s javelin F12/13); bronzes went to Anubhav Choudhary (men’s 100m T35), Parveen (men’s shot put F46) and Rakeshbhai Bhatt (men’s 100m T37).

Nishad Kumar became one of three Indians to win two golds at a single Asian Para Games after clearing 2.04m to take the men’s high jump T47 title on Tuesday; he had previously won the men’s long jump T47 on Monday. Ayush Verma, 35, won his second medal of the Games after a bronze in the men’s javelin F53/F54 on Tuesday and produced a shot put of 8.16m on his fifth attempt to secure the F53 shot put gold; Ayush sustained a spinal cord injury in a road accident and competes in the F53 classification, which is for seated field athletes whose trunk and leg movements are significantly affected.

Praveen, a double Paralympic medallist, defended his high jump crown with a Games record of 2.05m to lead an Indian one-two finish, while Banti took silver with a personal best of 1.92m. “I was not well two weeks back and was thinking how I would defend my gold medal. After that I was recovering for one week, but my body was not strong and jumps were not coming. But in the end it turned out that all these illnesses are nothing if you have to win gold for the country,” Praveen said; the 23-year-old won Paralympic gold in 2024, hails from Govindgarh village in Uttar Pradesh, and won bronze at the 2025 World Para Athletics Championships in New Delhi.

Sachin Khilari defended the men’s shot put F46 title and led an Indian podium sweep with a sixth-round throw of 15.87m, surpassing the previous Games record of 15.67m; Mohd Yasser took silver with 15.06m and Parveen won bronze with 14.94m. “In the last Para Asiad, Paralympics and World Para Championships, most of the time I was alone on the podium. Today, two more Indians joined me, that is incredible,” Khilari said; the 36-year-old, who won silver at the 2024 Paris Paralympics, comes from Karagani village in Maharashtra’s Sangli district and was introduced to para-sports in 2015 under coach Satyanarayana.

Other notable performances included Deepthi Jeevanji’s Games record of 56.36 seconds to win the women’s 400m T20 on Tuesday, her second consecutive Asian Para Games gold in the event, and Simran’s Games-record 24.80 seconds to win the women’s 200m T12, with Tejalben Damor taking bronze in 25.23 seconds. Pranav Soorma won gold in the men’s discus F51/52/53 with an Asian record of 11.66m and Ram Ratan Singh took silver; Soorma had previously won gold in the club throw F51 at the Asian Para Games and the 2024 Paralympics and sustained a spinal cord injury at 16. Devender Kumar led an Indian sweep in the men’s discus F44/64 with a gold throw of 49.71m, followed by Rakesh and Pardeep Kumar.

India’s podiums on earlier days included a one-two in the women’s 10m air rifle standing SH1 where Mona Agarwal beat Avani Lekhara, para-archery silver for Sheetal Devi and Payal Nag in the women’s compound doubles, and a silver for Kasthuri Rajamani in para-powerlifting; other medallists on Tuesday included Preeti Pal (silver, women’s 200m T35), Praveen Sharma (bronze, men’s shot put F11) and Hokato Hotozhe Sema (bronze, men’s shot put F56/57). According to the latest tally provided in the source material, India stood fifth in the overall medal standings with 47 medals — 12 gold, 17 silver and 18 bronze — as the Asian Para Games continue through October 24, 2026.
