India will open their ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2027 campaign against defending champions Australia at Newlands in Cape Town on October 7, the International Cricket Council announced on Thursday. They have been drawn in Group A alongside Australia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe and Qualifier A.

India's group-stage programme continues with a match against Pakistan at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on October 10, followed by a game versus Afghanistan at the Centurion in Tshwane on October 14. They will face Qualifier A in Bloemfontein on October 17 and conclude the group phase against co-hosts Zimbabwe at the Victoria Falls Stadium on October 24.

India have been pre-seeded A1 for the Super 7 stage. Should they advance, scheduled Super 7 fixtures based on those pre-seeded positions see India play Australia in Victoria Falls on October 28, South Africa in Johannesburg on October 31, New Zealand in Paarl on November 4, Pakistan in Cape Town on November 7, England in Gqeberha on November 11 and Sri Lanka in Durban on November 14; these fixtures are subject to the teams qualifying for the Super 7 stage.

The 2027 tournament, jointly hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia, will begin on October 2. The competition format will move from the group stage into the Super 7 phase, with the leading teams from the Super 7 advancing to the knockout rounds.

The first semi-final is scheduled for Cape Town on November 17 and the second semi-final for the Centurion on November 18, with the final set for the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on November 21.

For India, the tournament starts with two high-profile fixtures against Australia and Pakistan before they meet Afghanistan, Qualifier A and Zimbabwe in the remainder of the group stage. Gill's side will need to navigate the opening phase successfully before turning their attention to the Super 7 round and the knockout stages.
