India’s Asian Games 2026 programme for September 17 begins in Nagoya, where teqball matches will start the country’s campaign two days before the official opening on September 19; Declan Gonsalves and Mohamed Anas Beg will be the first Indian athletes in action on that day.
Aichi and Nagoya are co-hosting the Games, the third time Japan has staged the event after Tokyo in 1958 and Hiroshima in 1994, with the competition running until October 4 across 36 sports. India arrives having won 107 medals, including 28 gold, to finish fourth at the last edition in Hangzhou, and has sent a 503-athlete contingent to Aichi-Nagoya to compete across those 36 sports.
Declan Gonsalves and Mohamed Anas Beg will play two group-stage matches on September 17 and are listed as India’s opening participants in teqball. The pair will face Vietnam and South Korea in Group B, with opportunities to progress depending on their group results. Schedule for the day is: 12:30 PM IST — Teqball (Men’s Doubles Group Stage); 01:00 PM IST — Teqball (Men’s Doubles Group Stage); 03:00 PM IST — Teqball (Men’s Doubles Quarter-finals); 04:00 PM IST — Teqball (Men’s Doubles Repechage).
Advancement from the group follows the tournament format: the top two from each group will move into the quarter-finals, which are scheduled to take place on September 17. A repechage round is also included in the day’s teqball programme at 04:00 PM IST.
