India finished fourth at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, recording multiple fourth-place results across disciplines while concluding the tournament with 85 medals — 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze. The Indian contingent produced several near-podium performances in athletics, shooting, rowing, equestrian, sailing and archery.

India’s overall haul of 85 medals secured fourth place in the final standings at the Asian Games 2026. While the delegation recorded numerous historic outcomes, a number of athletes missed medals by narrow margins, producing a list of notable fourth-place finishes across individual and team events.

Athletics accounted for several of those near-misses: Asha Ilango finished fourth in the women’s triple jump, Parul Chaudhary placed fourth in the women’s 1500m final with a personal best of 4:09.46, and Shaili Singh was recorded fourth in the women’s long jump with 6.41m — a measurement the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) has disputed and said it plans to approach CAS. Defending champion Avinash Sable produced a season-best in the men’s 3,000m steeplechase but finished fourth.

Additional athletics fourth-place results included Seema Kaliramna in the women’s discus throw and Tanya Chaudhary in the women’s hammer throw, where Tanya registered a personal best of 65.35m. The Indian women’s 4x100m relay quartet of Abinaya Rajarajan, Tamanna, Sneha Sathyanarayana and Sudeshna Shivankar also finished fourth in their final.

Shooting yielded multiple fourth-place outcomes: Kamaljeet Sahlot, Kedarling Balakrishna Uchaganve and Aakash Bharadwaj were fourth in the men’s 10m air pistol team event, and the women’s 10m air pistol team of Manu Bhaker, Esha Singh and Suruchi Singh placed fourth. In individual and mixed events, Anantjeet Singh Naruka was fourth in men’s skeet, Raiza Dhillon fourth in women’s skeet, Elavenil Valarivan and Parth Mane finished fourth in the 10m air rifle mixed team final, and Tilottama Sen ended fourth in the women’s 50m rifle 3-position individual final.

Rowing and equestrian results featured close finishes as well: Balraj Panwar was fourth in the men’s single sculls Final A with a time of 6:54.80, while the pair of Rohit Kumar and Ujjwal Kumar Singh finished fourth in the men’s lightweight double sculls Final A. India’s team dressage quartet of Gaurav Pundir, Hriday Vipul Chheda, Shruti Vora and Jai Sud placed fourth in the team event.

In sailing and archery, Vishnu Saravanan finished fourth in the men’s dinghy (ILCA 7) event after remaining in medal contention but ultimately missing the podium. In men’s individual recurve archery, Dhiraj Bommadevara lost the bronze-medal bout and finished fourth, with Neeraj Chauhan eventually securing bronze for India.

The record presented 19 fourth-place finishes across medal events at the Games. The report lists those 19 results and states they involved 30 individual athletes when team members are counted separately; another passage in the same account records a total of 31 Indian athletes were involved in the 19 fourth-place finishes, including athletes from team events.
