India's highest T20I run chase is 209, achieved twice

India's highest successful run chase in Twenty20 internationals is 209, achieved on two occasions: Vizag in 2023 against Australia and Raipur in 2026 against New Zealand.

Team India are ranked among the top sides in the world and are the only team with three T20 World Cup titles (2007, 2024 and 2026). The side's batting unit is described in the source as capable of scoring and chasing 200 or more consistently, with power hitters who can clear the ropes. India hold the record for scoring 200 or more the most times in T20I history and hold the record for the highest total in a T20 World Cup knockout game.

While batting second, India have reached 200 or more on 11 occasions and have converted eight of those into wins. Their proficiency in posting large totals is also reflected in first-innings records: they are the only full-member side to have exceeded 270 three times and the only side to surpass 250 on seven occasions. The article specifies that these tallies refer to first-innings scores.

The first instance of the 209 chase came against Australia in Vizag in 2023, when India chased down 209/8 with one ball to spare. Captain Suryakumar Yadav scored 80 off 42 balls and Ishan Kishan made 58 off 39 in that successful pursuit. Those two innings were identified in the source as key contributions to the win.

The second occasion occurred in Raipur in 2026 against New Zealand, when India chased 209/3. India were 6/2 early in the innings before Ishan Kishan (76 off 32) and Suryakumar Yadav (82* off 37) added 122 for the third wicket. Shivam Dube then finished the chase with an unbeaten 36 off 18, as reported in the source.

India have also recorded a 211/4 while batting second against Sri Lanka in 2009, but the target in that match was 207. That detail is provided in the original material to distinguish it from the 209 successful chases.
