India second on men's kabaddi points table after Day 1 at Asian Games 2026

India were placed second on the men's kabaddi points table after Day 1 of the Asian Games 2026, with matches played on September 21; Bangladesh top the standings after winning both of their opening fixtures.

Day 1 began with Bangladesh defeating the Republic of Korea 39-35, a result that came despite the presence of Jang Kun Lee and other experienced players in the Korean squad. Thailand opened their campaign with a 59-48 victory over Nepal, while India recorded a 49-24 win against hosts Japan in their only match of the day. In evening play Pakistan beat Malaysia 65-22 and Bangladesh closed the day with a narrow 48-47 win over Chinese Taipei.

Group A consists of five teams and all played at least one game on Day 1. Bangladesh, having beaten the Republic of Korea and Chinese Taipei, sit at the top of Group A with two wins. India occupy second place after their 49-24 victory over Japan. Chinese Taipei are third without a win following their one-point loss to Bangladesh; the Republic of Korea are fourth and Japan fifth, both yet to record victories.

Group B also consists of five teams, four of which featured on Day 1. Pakistan lead Group B after their 65-22 win over Malaysia, with Thailand second courtesy of their 59-48 victory over Nepal. Iran are third despite not playing on Day 1; Nepal and Malaysia are fourth and fifth respectively, each having played once and neither securing a win.
