India seek more medals on Day 2 in Aichi-Nagoya after Elavenil Valarivan's two silvers
India will pursue further podium finishes at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya on Monday, September 21, after Elavenil Valarivan won two silver medals on the opening day.
The Asian Games opened on Sunday in Aichi-Nagoya, where India began its campaign with two silvers in the women's 10m air rifle event; Elavenil took individual silver and earlier helped India to team silver alongside Sonam Maskar and Vidarsa Vinod. Himanshu opened with 105.3 to lie eighth early, Parth recorded 104.5 in 13th and Rudrankksh shot 104.2 for 15th; the standings remain fluid because shooters have completed different numbers of shots. In soft tennis mixed doubles, the pairing of Jay Meena and Aadhya Tiwari beat Cambodia with set scores of 4-1, 4-0, 4-2, 4-1, 4-2. Jay Meena and Aadhya Tiwari will next face Mongolia in the draw.
In women's Changquan wushu, Nyeman Wangsu posted a score of 9.573 and, among 14 athletes who have performed so far, sits 13th, leaving her outside medal contention at this stage of the event. That placement follows the completion of her routine and the current count of competitors who have already performed.
Suchika Tariyal advanced to the semifinals of the women's traditional mixed martial arts 60kg category by defeating Mongolia's Altanchimeg Baigalmaa 2-0, a result that guarantees her at least a bronze medal. The 36-year-old, who has competed in judo, kurash, jiu-jitsu and now MMA, will meet Singapore's Teo Hui Hoon in the semifinal at 8 am IST.
