India set to host Cape Verde friendly between September 30 and October 6, Brazil match in Kolkata on October 3

India are likely to host Cape Verde in a friendly in India between September 30 and October 6, with the proposed fixture potentially scheduled either before or after India's friendly against Brazil in Kolkata on October 3, sources said.
"The talks are on but it is yet to be finalised. But there is high probability that India will host Cape Verde between September 30 and October 6," a source told PTI. "The venue and date will be decided after it's officially finalised. The modalities and deliberations are on. Hopefully, it will be finalised shortly."
Currently ranked 64, Cape Verde drew global attention at the 2026 FIFA World Cup by reaching the last-32 on their debut and completing an unbeaten group-stage campaign.
In the group phase they held eventual champions Spain to a 0-0 draw, played out a 2-2 draw with Uruguay and drew 0-0 with Saudi Arabia to progress to the knockout stage.
Their run ended in the round of 32 against defending champions Argentina, a 2-3 defeat after extra time in which Cape Verde twice fought back from behind.
The campaign was Cape Verde's first World Cup appearance and saw them become the smallest country and the second least-populated nation after Iceland to qualify for the tournament.
If the fixture is confirmed, it would be scheduled within the September 30–October 6 window around India's already scheduled friendly with Brazil in Kolkata on October 3, with the exact venue and date to be set once arrangements are finalised.
