India to begin two-Test series in Galle on August 15; last Sri Lanka series win over India came in 2008

India are scheduled to begin a two-match Test series against Sri Lanka on August 15, 2026, with the opening Test to be played in Galle. The two sides will meet in Tests for the first time since 2022.

Khel Now noted that India have not lost a Test series to Sri Lanka in more than a decade, a run the report linked to the Shubman Gill-led side’s dominance. The last time India suffered a Test series defeat to Sri Lanka was on the 2008 tour, when Sri Lanka won the three-match series 2-1.

In the 2008 series Sri Lanka won the first Test in Colombo by an innings and 239 runs. India responded in the second Test in Galle with a 170-run victory. Sri Lanka secured the series with an eight-wicket win in the third Test in Colombo, a result the report identifies as Sri Lanka’s last bilateral Test series victory over India.

Sri Lanka’s most recent individual Test victory over India arrived in the first Test of the 2015 series in Galle, where the hosts won by 63 runs. In that match India, chasing 176, were dismissed for 112 in their second innings. Rangana Herath took seven wickets in the game.

India recovered in the 2015 series to win the next two Tests in Colombo and claim the series 2-1. Since that 2015 defeat, the report states Sri Lanka have not beaten India in a Test match. The wider sequence since 2008 has seen India win or draw every Test series between the two countries.

Sri Lanka enter the 2026 meeting having not recorded a bilateral Test series win over India since 2008 and without a Test victory over India since the 2015 Galle match. The 2026 programme comprises two Tests, with the second match scheduled from August 23 to 27.
