India to face Brazil in Kolkata on October 3 as two Indian players have previously scored against Brazil

On 3rd October 2026 the Indian men’s senior football team will host Brazil at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan (VYBK) in Kolkata in the September-October international window. India previously drew 1-1 with Panama on 25th September at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru and are scheduled to play Uruguay on 6th October at VYBK following the Brazil fixture.
Indian sides have met Brazil on four occasions across senior, youth and women’s fixtures, and those encounters produced just two Indian goals from two different matches. The first edition of the BRICS Cup was staged in Goa as a U-17 tournament for the men’s sides, where India’s Blue Colts lost all three group games to Russia, China and South Africa without scoring and had no chance of advancing to the finals before their match with Brazil.
In the BRICS Cup meeting with Brazil, Brenner Dsouza opened the scoring in the second minute. Komal Thatal equalised in the 19th minute after receiving a long ball on the left, taking a couple of touches to evade defenders before curling a shot into the net from the edge of the box. Brazil then scored again in the 30th minute and Vinicius Jr added another in the 81st minute.
The women’s meeting between India and Brazil took place on 26th November 2021 in the TFF 2021 tournament and served as a farewell match for Miraildes Maciel Mota, better known as Formiga. Brazil took the lead in the first minute through Debinha from a rebound off Indian goalkeeper Aditi Chauhan, and India shifted to a defensive approach, relying on counter-attacks for chances.
Manisha Kalyan scored India’s other goal against Brazil in the 8th minute of that match after collecting the ball at the halfway line with no Brazilian defender ahead, taking a few touches to reach the edge of the box before firing a left-footed shot to the right bottom corner. Brazil scored five further goals to win the game 6-1.
Across the four encounters involving Indian teams and Brazil, Komal Thatal and Manisha Kalyan are the only Indian players to have scored. The senior men’s side will meet Brazil at VYBK on 3rd October 2026 and then face Uruguay at the same venue on 6th October, with Khalid Jamil serving as head coach of the Blue Tigers.
