India to face Sri Lanka in Asian Games women's cricket final in Nisshin

India and Sri Lanka will meet in the Asian Games women's cricket final at the Korogi Athletics Park in Nisshin on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, in a repeat continental title clash. The match comes nine days after the two sides met in the Asia Cup final in Dubai.

This final is a replay of the meeting between the teams three years ago in Hangzhou, with India entering as the defending champion and holding a seven-match winning run against Sri Lanka. India advanced to the final after thrashing Bangladesh by 114 runs in the semifinal. Sri Lanka reached the title match after captain Chamari Athapaththu produced a 50-ball 83 to complete a tricky chase against Pakistan in the other last-four clash.

India's opening batters have been in excellent touch during the competition, with Shafali Verma registering her maiden T20I century (100 n.o., 49b) in the win over Bangladesh. Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur have also contributed runs, while other top-order options have struggled.

G. Kamalini and Bharti Fulmali have not yet produced significant contributions in the tournament and will face pressure to change that in the final. Given the choice, the Women in Blue would prefer to bat first and post a big total, mirroring their approach in the Asia Cup earlier this month.

India's spin attack, led by Deepti Sharma and the impressive Shree Charani, is expected to play a central role in the final. Deepti is the only player in the Indian side who was part of the team at the previous Asian Games and would be keen on getting another gold, while Chamari’s return to form with the bat poses a clear threat.
