India to hold judo exposure camp at Tsukuba University in Japan

The Sports Authority of India has approved an exposure camp for 11 Indian judokas at Tsukuba University in Japan from September 5 to October 2 ahead of the Asian Games and the World Championships, a release said on Monday. The delegation will travel to Japan for training and preparatory sessions ahead of the two events.

The SAI-approved group comprises 11 judokas, including 10 women, and three coaches. Commonwealth Games champion Asmita Dey (48kg) is among those selected for the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. Yamini Mourya (57kg) and Inunganbi Takhelambam (70kg) complete the trio named for the Asian Games.

The 11-member Indian squad for the World Championships includes Harsh Singh. Harsh Singh is the Commonwealth Games men's 60kg champion. He is ranked 84th and is the only Indian male to make it to the elite event. The World Championships will commence from October 4 in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Worlds: Men: Harsh Singh (60kg); Women: Asmita Dey (48kg), Shraddha Chopade, L. Nungshithoi Chanu (all 52kg), Yamini Mourya (57kg), Linthoi Chanambam, Unnati Sharma, Himanshi Tokas (all 63kg), Takhelambam Inunganbi, K.H. Taibanganbi (all 70kg), Ishroop Narang (78kg). These names form the women's contingent named for the World Championships.

Three athletes named for the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games also appear on the World Championships list. Those athletes are Asmita Dey, Yamini Mourya and Inunganbi Takhelambam. The SAI release set out the squads for both the Asian Games and the World Championships.

The exposure camp at Tsukuba University runs from September 5 to October 2 ahead of the World Championships, which commence from October 4 in Baku, Azerbaijan.
