India to name ODI squad for New Zealand tour in 'next two or three days', BCCI secretary says

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said on October 15, 2026 that India’s One-Day International squad for the upcoming tour of New Zealand will be finalised “in the next two or three days,” ahead of the five-match ODI series that begins in Auckland on November 4.
India will tour New Zealand later this month for a multi-format series comprising five T20Is, five ODIs and two Tests; the T20I leg starts on October 22, the ODI series opens in Auckland on November 4 and concludes in Tauranga on November 15, while the first Test is scheduled to begin in Wellington from November 19. The BCCI has already announced the T20I squad, but both the ODI and Test squads remain to be named.
“We will select India’s ODI team in the next two or three days,” said Devajit Saikia, adding that the selectors will discuss the available players before making the final decision. Saikia’s comment came as the selection committee prepared to assess player availability and recent form ahead of the tour.
Domestic and recent List A performances will inform selection choices, the board indicated, with Mumbai all-rounder Suryansh Shedge mentioned as a candidate after his showing against Australia A in the recent List A series. Shedge scored 66 in the final match and took four wickets during that series, figures cited as part of his case for consideration.
Interim chief selector Pragyan Ojha met India captain Shubman Gill and head coach Gautam Gambhir in Hyderabad on Wednesday; the meeting was reported to be their first since Ojha was appointed interim chairman of the national selection committee following Ajit Agarkar’s exit. The discussions occurred as the selectors prepared to finalise the squad for the New Zealand ODIs.
Shubman Gill is set to lead India in the five-match ODI series beginning on November 4, a responsibility referenced during the selection discussions in Hyderabad. The management and selectors are due to confirm the final squad ahead of the tour.
Per Devajit Saikia’s timeline, the BCCI is expected to announce the ODI squad within the next two to three days, with the series scheduled to start in Auckland on November 4 and finish in Tauranga on November 15.
