India opened their campaign with a 13-0 victory over Bangladesh at the Olympian Surjit Singh Hockey Stadium in Jalandhar on October 27 and lead the points table at the Men’s Hockey Asian Champions Trophy 2026, which is being held in India from October 27 to November 5.

The tournament features six teams — India, China, Malaysia, Japan, South Korea and Bangladesh — competing in a round-robin league where each side meets the other once and the top four advance to the semi-finals. Hosts India enter as two-time defending champions and are the competition’s most successful team with five titles; South Korea (1) and Pakistan (3) are the only other nations to have won the tournament. Pakistan, who are the second most successful nation in the tournament, pulled out of this year’s event citing safety issues after initially writing to the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) to host the tournament outside India, and Bangladesh were announced as their replacement; the tournament, usually held annually, was cancelled in 2025.

In opening-day results, India defeated Bangladesh 13-0. Malaysia beat China 5-4 and Japan defeated South Korea 3-2 in their respective opening matches.

All league phase matches will be played at the Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium in Jalandhar, while the Olympian Balbir Singh (Senior) International Hockey Stadium in Mohali will host the knockout round matches. The league stage runs until November 2 with each team playing five matches; the top four teams will qualify for the semi-finals on November 4, and the bronze-medal match and final are scheduled for November 5 in Mohali.

After one round of fixtures India lead the standings with three points and a +13 goal difference. Malaysia and Japan also have three points but sit behind India on goal difference. Teams are placed based on points. If two or more teams have the same number of points, then the positions are decided based on matches won. Other classification rules are goal difference, goals for, head-to-head results, and field goals scored.

With the league phase ongoing, competition resumes on October 29 in Jalandhar with three scheduled fixtures: Malaysia will face South Korea at 2:30 PM IST, Bangladesh will play Japan at 4:45 PM IST, and India will meet China at 7:00 PM IST.
