India v West Indies: What happened the last time they met in an ODI series (2023)

India and the West Indies last met in a three-match One-Day International series in Barbados and Trinidad in 2023 during India’s build-up for the ICC Cricket World Cup. India won that series 2-1.

The two teams are due to meet again in a three-match, 50-over series starting from September 27. West Indies’ most recent ODI action came in July against New Zealand, when they won the first match by 7 wickets but then lost three consecutive games while trying to defend a total, losing the series 3-2 with all five matches won by the chasing side. India’s last ODI series was at home against England, where India won the opener by 6 wickets before England won the remaining two matches; those ODIs were followed by a five-match T20I series which India lost 4-0.

The 2023 ODI series began at Kensington Oval in Barbados, where India won the first game by 5 wickets. The victory was underpinned by a combined haul of seven wickets from Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav.

At the same Kensington Oval venue in the second match, West Indies levelled the series. Rohit Sharma was rested for that fixture and Hardik Pandya captained India; the Men in Blue were bowled out for 181 and lost by 6 wickets with 13 overs to spare.

The deciding game took place at Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad, as India set a target of 352. Mukesh Kumar took three wickets and Shardul Thakur dismissed four batters as West Indies were dismissed for 151; India won the match by 200 runs to claim the series 2-1.

India and the West Indies also met in the ICC T20 World Cup earlier this year.

The upcoming series between India and West Indies begins on September 27 and will consist of three 50-over matches.
