India will aim to finish their five-match T20I series against New Zealand with a win when the sides meet in the fifth and final match at Seddon Park, Hamilton, on November 1. The series is already decided in India's favour, allowing the selectors scope to tinker with personnel for the finale.

India won the first three matches to seal the series but suffered an 87 runs defeat in the fourth T20I in Auckland. In that match New Zealand posted 259/7 and then restricted India to 172/9, exposing concerns in both the batting order and the bowling combination. With the outcome already settled, the team management could use the final fixture to experiment and assess fringe players.

One option is to bring Bhuvneshwar Kumar back into the XI in place of Prince Yadav. Bhuvneshwar’s first three matches in the series “did not go well by his standards,” but the article argues judging an experienced bowler on three outings would be premature. The piece notes his ability to swing the new ball, his variations and death control, and points out he enjoyed an excellent IPL 2026 campaign, picking up 28 wickets for Royal Challengers Bengaluru; giving him game time could help India assess his role ahead of future international assignments.

Another suggested change is to select Shivam Dube instead of Nitish Kumar Reddy. The write-up contrasts Nitish’s seam-bowling option with Dube’s greater middle-order power-hitting and contends Dube could be more effective against spin. It adds that Dube can bowl a few overs of medium pace, offering an extra bowling option for the captain, and that the fifth T20I would be a suitable occasion to evaluate his impact.

The third proposal is to reinstate Vaibhav Sooryavanshi at the top of the order in place of Sanju Samson. Sooryavanshi has appeared twice in the series, with his best showing in the third T20I when he scored 45 off 19 deliveries and shared a 133-run opening partnership with Abhishek Sharma. He was omitted for the fourth match after Ishan Kishan returned from injury, and the article suggests testing the 15-year-old’s aggressive approach alongside Abhishek could provide another explosive option.

India are 3-1 ahead in the series. The last NZ vs IND T20I will be played on November 1.
