India won 26 medals on Friday at the Asian Para Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya on October 23, taking their overall total to 114 and surpassing their previous record haul from Hangzhou to move into fourth place.

Building on the 88 medals they had through Day 4, the Indian contingent added nine golds across para-athletics, badminton, archery, and shooting to reach an aggregate of 30 gold, 35 silver and 49 bronze medals. Para-athletics supplied a large portion of the haul, with multiple podium finishes in javelin, throws and track events.

Sumit Antil led a clean sweep in the men’s javelin throw F42-F44/F61-F64, winning gold with Mahendra Gurjar taking silver and Sandip Sargar bronze. Pranav Soorma secured gold in the men’s club throw F51 while Dharambir Nain earned bronze; Haney clinched gold in the men’s javelin throw F37/38. Sandeep stormed to gold in the men’s 400m T64 with Ajay Kumar taking bronze, and Parmod Bijarnia won silver in the men’s 1500m T46.

Nimisha Suresh added a silver in the women’s long jump T47, and Navdeep Singh, Rakeshbhai Bhatt and Sandeep contributed additional bronze medals to the track-and-field tally. Those results rounded out India’s successful day on the athletics programme and helped drive the country’s overall medal surge.

India’s para-badminton team produced several final-day victories: Nitesh Kumar beat compatriot Pramod Bhagat to win men’s singles SL3, Naveen Sivakumar defeated Fredy Setiawan for the men’s singles SL4 title, and Thulasimathi Murugesan paired with Manasi Joshi to beat China’s Yang Quixia and Xiao Zuxian for the women’s doubles SL3–SU5 gold. Thulasimathi also added two silvers in women’s singles SU5 and the mixed doubles SL3–SU5 with Nitesh, while Nithya Sre claimed silver in women’s singles SH6.

In para-archery and shooting, Harvinder Singh and Vijay Sundi won gold in recurve men’s doubles and Pooja Jatyan with Bhawna Choudhary took silver in women’s doubles; Mona Agarwal captured her second gold in the R8 women’s 50m rifle 3P SH1 final. Additional bronzes for India came from Jehan Madan and Shubham Wadhwa in table tennis (MD4) and swimmer Himanshu Nandal in the men’s 100m freestyle S11.

On the overall table China remained clear leaders with 427 medals (204 gold, 115 silver, 108 bronze) with one day of competition remaining; Japan were second with 185 medals and Uzbekistan third on 145. India retained fourth place with 114 medals, fending off South Korea (28 gold) and Iran (26 gold), while Iran and Thailand have also breached the 100-medal mark; Indonesia and Kazakhstan were the only other nations to cross 50 medals and Pakistan finished with one silver, in joint 28th place alongside Tajikistan and Timor-Leste.

India finished its campaign with a total of 114 medals—30 golds, 35 silvers and 49 bronzes—while the Games continue with one day remaining and China edging closer to the 500-medal mark.
