India captain Shubman Gill won a delayed toss and chose to bowl in the second one-day international against New Zealand in Wellington on Saturday, November 7, 2026. The match was reduced by rain to 47 overs per side.

The toss had been held up for an hour because of a wet outfield, and both captains indicated they would bowl first in humid conditions on a pitch that had been covered for the previous two days. “No surprises there,” Gill said.

Both sides named unchanged XIs from the opening match in Auckland, which India won by five wickets with 56 balls remaining. That first game was also affected by rain and featured an innings of 74 by Virat Kohli. Kohli celebrated his 38th birthday in Wellington on Thursday.

Rain fell on the morning of Saturday, November 7, dampening the outfield. Heavier rain was forecast, with possible thunderstorms also mentioned.

New Zealand named Will Young, Tim Seifert, Henry Nicholls, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Latham, Glenn Phillips, Mitchell Santner (captain), Nathan Smith, Kyle Jamieson, Jacob Duffy and Blair Tickner. India’s XI was Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill (captain), Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, K.L. Rahul, Naman Dhir, Anshul Kamboj, Arshdeep Singh, Auqib Nabi and Gurnoor Brar.

India had won the preceding five-match Twenty20 series 3-2. Published - November 07, 2026 11:07 am IST - WELLINGTON, New Zealand.
