India would advance if IND vs SL semi at Asian Games 2026 is washed out

If the India v Sri Lanka semi-final at the Asian Games 2026, scheduled for Thursday, October 01, 2026 at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, is abandoned because of rain, India would progress to the final on the basis of T20I rankings; India are currently ranked no. 1, while Sri Lanka are ranked ninth in the world.

All four quarterfinal fixtures were washed out earlier in the tournament, leaving Afghanistan, Nepal, Hong Kong and Malaysia eliminated without playing their knockout matches; the last six matches of the Asian Games 2026 have been abandoned and the rain-affected schedule has advanced India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh to the semifinal stage.

The two semifinals are set for Thursday at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, with Pakistan meeting Bangladesh in the first semi and India taking on Sri Lanka in the second.

Organisers reported an improved weather forecast for Thursday in Nisshin compared with the previous days, but recent heavy rain has affected the ground and a wet outfield remains a potential cause for delay or abandonment.

Tournament regulations mean that if the India–Sri Lanka match is washed out, India will move into the final on rankings; the same provision would see Pakistan qualify over Bangladesh should their semi be abandoned, opening the possibility of an India v Pakistan final.

The India v Sri Lanka semi-final is scheduled to start at 10:00 AM IST on Thursday, October 01, 2026, with the toss planned for 9:30 AM IST.

If play cannot produce results in either semi-final, the higher-ranked sides will advance and an India v Pakistan final would be produced by those ranking-based qualifications.
