Indian boxers guarantee 10 medals, surpass Birmingham haul

Ten Indian pugilists have secured medals after advancing to the semifinals at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, ensuring the nation's boxing contingent will collect at least 10 podium finishes. The latest set of semifinalists joined four earlier qualifiers to push India past its previous total from Birmingham.

A strong showing across weight categories produced the milestone, with multiple fighters moving into the last four of their events. Reaching the semifinals at the Commonwealth Games ensures a boxer of at least a bronze medal, which is why these results translate directly into guaranteed podium places. This group of semifinalists combines recent winners and established names who have delivered consistent performances through the early rounds. The achievement marks a clear improvement on India’s performance at the previous Games.

Sakshi Chaudhary (51kg), Arundhati Choudhary (70kg), Sachin Siwach (60kg), Ankush Panghal (80kg), Narender Berwal (+90kg) and world champion Jaismine Lamboria (57kg) advanced into their respective semifinals. They joined Lovlina Borgohain (75kg), Priya Ghanghas (60kg), Preeti Pawar (54kg) and Jadumani Singh (55kg) in securing places among the last four. Each of these fighters now has at least a bronze medal guaranteed by virtue of their semifinal status.

India had finished with seven boxing medals in Birmingham - three gold, one silver and three bronze. The ten guaranteed medals from the current campaign therefore eclipse that Birmingham tally. The comparison underscores the progress shown by the Indian boxing squad in this edition of the Games.

Among the names that moved through are figures who have been prominent on the international stage, combining rising talent and experienced competitors. The roster covers a broad range of weight divisions, reflecting depth across both the men’s and women’s fields. That balance contributed to India reaching double-digit guaranteed medals at the event.
