Indian fencers win three golds among five medals on third day of Commonwealth Championship in Lagos

The Indian fencing team won three gold, one silver and one bronze on the third day of the Commonwealth Championship in Lagos, Nigeria. The five medals were earned across senior individual events.

The three golds were claimed in senior women's foil, senior men's epee and senior men's sabre. India secured a gold-silver one-two in the senior women's foil category. The day's haul raised India's combined medal total at the championships to 29 medals — comprising 8 Gold, 7 Silver, and 14 Bronze.

India completed a one-two in senior women's foil as Kanaglakshmi captured the gold following a precise and controlled campaign. Teammate Joys Ashitha took silver, with England's Georgia Green and Emily Goodchild winning bronze.

Rajendran Shanthimol Sherjin produced a commanding performance to secure India's second gold of the day in senior men's epee. Sherjin outpointed South Africa's Kruger Pieter, who finished with silver. Wales' Burkhardt Marc and South Africa's Losevsky Sergey shared the bronze medals.

In senior men's sabre, Singh Karan Singh claimed India's third gold of the day by defeating Australia's Shim Yoongi in the final; Shim took silver. Kumaresan Padma Gisho Nidhi won bronze alongside Nigeria's Akinyosoye Oluwafolayemi.

With the championship wrapping up on Wednesday, the Indian contingent turns its focus toward the final events across the foil, epee and sabre disciplines.
