Gianni Infantino told Sky News correspondent James Matthews "I'll see you at the hairdressers" outside a hotel in the Dominican Republic on August 22, 2026, after Matthews asked whether he had betrayed football over his aborted World Cup sell-off plan.

Matthews, Sky's US correspondent, tracked the Fifa president to a hotel in the Caribbean country and challenged the 56-year-old about why he had not resigned despite calls from across the game for him to step down. Last week, three continental confederations accused Infantino of "deception" over his plans to secure private investment in Fifa tournaments, and European governing body Uefa has threatened a boycott of Fifa competitions after saying it had "lost confidence" in his leadership.

When Matthews put the question directly — asking whether Infantino had "betrayed the game of football" — the Fifa president replied: "You have a nice haircut. Thank you so much." The exchange took place as Infantino was approached outside the hotel.

Matthews pressed further, asking: "Why won’t you resign? Fans, Fifa associations want you to step down. Why won’t you? Have you betrayed the trust of Fifa?" Infantino began to walk away while the questions were being put to him.

As he moved toward a waiting vehicle, Infantino stepped inside a black car and responded to the continued questioning by saying: "I'll see you at the hairdressers."
