Inter close to €35m move for Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones

Inter Milan and Liverpool are nearing agreement on a 35m euros (£30m) transfer for midfielder Curtis Jones, sources reported on 19 August 2026. Sources in Italy say a verbal understanding may be in place as talks continue between the clubs.
In June Liverpool rejected a verbal 25m euros (£21.7m) offer from Inter, having valued the 25-year-old at about £35m; Jones has one year remaining on his current contract. Liverpool are open to selling and are seeking a package in line with the £30m that Inter paid Tottenham for Djed Spence.
Inter had previously shown interest in January, offering a loan with a view to a permanent transfer, a proposal Liverpool turned down at the time. The relationship between the clubs has progressed since then, with renewed negotiations this summer.
Jones came through Liverpool’s academy after joining at the age of nine and made his first-team debut at 17 under Jurgen Klopp in 2019. He has made 228 appearances for Liverpool since that debut.
Last season Jones played 49 times in all competitions but started only 18 Premier League matches and struggled to hold down a regular midfield place under Arne Slot. Those appearance and start figures underline the reduced role he had in the campaign.
Jones is understood to be keen on a new challenge and, if the move is completed, would become the third English player to join the Italian champions this summer after John Stones and Djed Spence. That sequence of signings has been part of Inter’s recruitment this window.
The understanding now is that a deal worth £30m will likely secure an agreement between the clubs, though both sides say further details need to be discussed before any transfer can be finalised.
