Inter in talks with Liverpool over Curtis Jones for around £30m

On 19 August 2026 Inter held talks with Liverpool over a transfer for midfielder Curtis Jones. The 25-year-old is expected to leave his boyhood club should the Italian champions offer around £30m.
Inter have targeted Jones since January and submitted a failed €25m bid in June; Liverpool had valued the homegrown midfielder closer to €40m. With Jones in the final year of his contract and no agreement on an extension, Liverpool’s asking price is unlikely to be met. Intermediaries contacted Liverpool in July with a proposal to pay up to €35m (£30m).
Formal negotiations between the clubs commenced on Wednesday, and no agreement had been reached at the time of publication. Reports indicate that should Inter proceed to €35m, Liverpool are likely to sanction Jones’s departure.
Inter’s recent willingness to pay Tottenham €35m for Djed Spence last week has been cited as a benchmark figure for the Jones discussions. That precedent is being referenced in the ongoing talks between the two clubs.
Jones has made six appearances for England and has been at Liverpool since the age of nine. He has struggled to establish a regular starting role and was described as cutting a frustrated figure last season under Arne Slot.
Andoni Iraola, Slot’s replacement as head coach, spoke at his unveiling about the importance of keeping the Toxteth-born midfielder and of having a local identity in his team. Liverpool must weigh Iraola’s public comments alongside Inter’s determined pursuit.
Negotiations remain under way and the next clear development will be whether Inter increase their offer to €35m; if they do, Liverpool are likely to approve a sale rather than risk losing Jones on a free transfer next summer.
