IOA medical team keeps Team India competition-ready in Glasgow
The Indian Olympic Association's medical team is maintaining the health and readiness of Team India at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Led by Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, the unit provides immediate care and manages athletes' injury and recovery protocols to ensure competitors remain available for their events.
Deployed across three hotels housing the athletes, the medical contingent attends to a wide range of needs from on-the-spot treatment to longer-term rehabilitation. The staff’s responsibilities include diagnosing injuries, initiating recovery plans and coordinating physiotherapy so athletes can return to training and competition as quickly as possible. Their work covers participants from multiple sports, reflecting the varied physical demands of the delegation.
Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala heads the team and oversees the clinical approach used for the athletes’ care. The medical group establishes and implements recovery protocols tailored to individual cases, tracking progress to decide when an athlete can safely resume competition. That oversight is intended to limit downtime and reduce the risk of re-injury during the Games.
Having personnel stationed where athletes are accommodated enables prompt response to medical issues that arise during the stay. Immediate assessment and treatment reduce delays that could otherwise interrupt preparation or prevent participation in key events. The on-site presence also helps with follow-up care in the hours and days after an incident.
Physiotherapy and rehabilitation form a central element of the support package offered by the IOA team. Regular therapeutic sessions and structured rehab plans aim to restore strength, mobility and function so competitors can perform at their peak across disciplines. This targeted support is applied according to each sport’s specific demands and the nature of individual injuries.
The medical operation is a behind-the-scenes component of Team India’s campaign in Glasgow, focused on keeping athletes fit and competition-ready. By combining immediate care, coordinated recovery protocols and sustained physiotherapy, the IOA medical team seeks to preserve athletes’ availability and performance throughout the Commonwealth Games.
