Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) completed a four-player trade on November 5, 2026, ahead of the IPL 2027 season, sending Liam Livingstone and Jack Edwards to CSK while Khaleel Ahmed and Nathan Ellis moved to SRH. The transaction arrives as franchises adjust squads ahead of retention and auction deadlines.

With the IPL 2027 retention deadline approaching on November 17, teams have begun reshaping rosters ahead of the mini-auction scheduled for December 16. CSK acquired Livingstone for INR 6 crore, a decline from the INR 13 crore SRH paid for him at the IPL 2026 auction. Jack Edwards joins Chennai at his existing price of INR 3 crore, while Khaleel Ahmed returns to Hyderabad for INR 4.8 crore and Nathan Ellis moves to SRH at his existing price of INR 2 crore.

Liam Livingstone arrives at CSK after an underwhelming campaign in the previous season and will now have an opportunity with a new franchise. The England all-rounder is described as a power-hitter who can also bowl both leg-spin and off-spin, offering CSK additional middle-order options.

Jack Edwards was originally signed by SRH ahead of IPL 2026 but did not make his debut after being ruled out of that season because of a foot injury. His move to CSK carries his existing valuation of INR 3 crore.

Khaleel Ahmed’s transfer back to SRH is a reunion; he represented Hyderabad between 2018 and 2021 before joining Chennai. Khaleel took 15 wickets in 14 matches for Chennai in IPL 2025, but featured in only five matches in IPL 2026 before a right quadriceps injury ended his season.

Nathan Ellis completes the switch to Hyderabad at his existing price of INR 2 crore and is noted in the deal for his T20 experience, variations and ability to bowl in the death overs. His addition gives SRH another pace option for the later overs.

The trade provides CSK with extra all-round resources and supplies SRH with two experienced pace bowlers as both franchises finalise squads ahead of IPL 2027. The next administrative milestones for all teams are the retention deadline on November 17 and the mini-auction on December 16.
